The Gambling Regulation Act 2024

The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 is the first modern framework for gambling in Ireland. It repeals older laws including the Gaming Act 1744, the Betting Act 1931 and the Gaming and Lotteries Act 1956, and brings online and in-person gambling under one regulator. Its main aims are protecting players, particularly children and vulnerable people, and licensing every operator that serves Irish customers.

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI)

The Act set up the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, which licenses, supervises and enforces the rules. The GRAI is rolling out licences in phases:
